Meet Waffle! 🧇
No brakes. No personal space. No regrets.
Some dogs are calm, collected and dignified.
Waffle is none of those things.
Waffle is a young, enthusiastic, four-legged breakfast item who approaches life with the energy of someone who's had six coffees and just discovered it's their birthday.
He came into our care from Auckland Council after a pretty rough start to life, with significant scarring around his neck from a collar or chain. Thankfully, Waffle hasn't let his past dampen his enthusiasm for life. In fact, we're not entirely convinced he's capable of being anything other than enthusiastic.
Waffle LOVES people. All people. Every single one. Have you met Waffle? No? Well, that's about to change because he's already on his way over.
He also loves other dogs. Unfortunately, Waffle seems to have missed the memo about personal space. In his mind, every dog is his best friend, and every best friend should want to play with him immediately, preferably for the next six hours.
We're currently teaching him that not every dog wants a Waffle shoved directly into their face. It's a work in progress.
Toys are another great passion of his. Squeaky toys, chewy toys, throwable toys. If it's a toy, Waffle wants it. If it's not a toy, he'd probably still like to investigate whether it could become one.
He's also been working hard on his education and now knows sit, wait and no. Whether he chooses to acknowledge these commands depends entirely on what else is happening at the time. The knowledge is definitely in there. Sometimes it's just competing with approximately 700 other thoughts.
One of Waffle's biggest achievements has been his relationship with his crate. Previously considered a violation of his basic puppy rights, he's now doing really well with it. Personal growth. We love to see it.
So, what kind of home does this walking health and safety incident need?
Waffle is looking for a family who understands that puppies are basically toddlers with sharper teeth, faster legs and

A Note on Training and Adopting Our Dogs
Our dogs are wonderful, and we invest a great deal of time and effort into their training and preparation. However, no dog is “perfectly trained” or ready to adopt without any ongoing work.
All dogs go through normal life stages and changes — puppyhood, adolescence, adulthood, aging, moving homes, and adapting to new environments. Any of these can lead to stress, uncertainty, or moments of testing boundaries.
Because of this, ongoing training is essential. Training isn’t a one-off task; it’s a continual process that helps you understand your dog’s needs, support them through transitions, and set everyone up for long-term success.
We would expect adopters to maintain the training we’ve started and seek further guidance if needed. We’re always happy to help with information and recommendations for trainers, and provide advice during the trial and adoption process also.
Can't adopt Waffle? You can still help.
Although we charge a small adoption fee, this doesn't generally cover the costs of us getting our dogs ready for adoption. Desexing, grooms, vet care, vaccinations, registration, training and variety of other things can go into these dogs. If you'd like to help either on a one off or regular basis we would be grateful for your donation.
