Groomers, We Need You!

Join The Dog Dignity Collective

Grooming is more than aesthetics, it’s welfare.

Across Aotearoa, many dogs are living with coats that have become painful, restrictive, or difficult to manage. In many cases, it’s not due to lack of care, but simply because grooming has become inaccessible, overwhelming, or financially out of reach for the people responsible for them.

The Dog Dignity Collective exists to bridge that gap.

Through a nationwide network of professional groomers, we help ensure that dogs experiencing coat neglect, matting, or grooming barriers can return to comfort, health, and dignity.

How groomers can help

We are building a collective of groomers across New Zealand who believe that grooming is an important part of animal welfare.

Partner groomers may choose to support the programme by:

• Offering occasional subsidised grooming appointments
• Accepting fully funded emergency cases when available
• Helping dogs returning to manageable coat condition
• Provide coat care guidance via our online blogs, with credit to yourselves

There is no minimum commitment. Even offering one appointment occasionally can make a real difference.

You remain fully in control of your schedule and availability.

What we provide

The Dog Dignity Collective coordinates requests and works to match them with groomers in the appropriate region.

We aim to support our grooming partners by providing:

• Request screening and coordination
• Clear communication with dog owners
• Funding as required to pay for grooming
• Recognition as a Dog Dignity Collective Grooming Partner
• Opportunities to be featured in programme updates and awareness campaigns

Our goal is to make participation simple, respectful, and flexible.

Why Join the Collective

By joining the Dog Dignity Collective, you become part of a nationwide effort to improve dog welfare through access to grooming.

Your skills help:

• Relieve discomfort caused by severe matting
• Prevent surrender of dogs whose coats have become unmanageable
• Support families who may need temporary help
• Restore dignity and comfort for dogs in your community

Many groomers already quietly help dogs in need.
This programme simply helps coordinate those efforts so that more dogs can be supported safely and fairly.

A partnership Approach

The Dog Dignity Collective is built on mutual respect for the grooming profession.

We recognise the skill, time, and care required to groom safely, especially when working with difficult coats or nervous dogs.

Participation is always voluntary, and groomers are free to decline any case that falls outside their comfort or capacity.
