Sheldon

MALE | BORN OCTOBER 2024 | MIXED BREED

LOCATED IN AUCKLAND

Meet Sheldon – a special boy looking for a truly committed home 💛

Sheldon is still young and shows typical playful puppy behaviours, so he will need a home that is patient, committed, and ready to put in the work to help him continue maturing into the best dog he can be.

Sheldon is a sweet, loving, and curious boy who enjoys meeting new people and experiencing the world around him. He has been out and about to schools, cafés, horse riding environments, and the vet, where he handled everything like a champ. He is friendly with dogs, cats, chickens, and children, and would suit a family-oriented home willing to meet his needs.

Recently, Sheldon returned to us with a noticeable wobble. At times it can appear as though he has little control over his legs, however he does have control and remains happy, comfortable, and pain-free. We have sought veterinary assessment, and based on examinations and information provided, the condition appears to be neurological in nature.

Sheldon has had some treatments for the most common conditions that can be treated or improved, with no change observed. Based on all information available from the vet, this is likely a lifelong condition with no cure.

Importantly, it does not affect Sheldon in any other way beyond his wobbliness — he is not in pain, his quality of life is good, and he continues to enjoy normal puppy activities. He has a great "I don't care what you think" attitude, that we absolutely love!

Sheldon is intelligent and eager to learn. He already knows basic commands such as sit and wait, is progressing with recall, and did great in puppy school. He loves playtime, human connection, and being involved in everyday life. Walking his foster sister to school and meeting the kids is his favorite!

Sheldon is a smart, loving, and gentle boy who will thrive with someone willing to understand his needs and commit to him for life. In return, he offers unwavering affection and the chance to give a truly special dog the loving home he deserves.

A Note on Training and Adopting Our Dogs

Our dogs are wonderful, and we invest a great deal of time and effort into their training and preparation. However, no dog is “perfectly trained” or ready to adopt without any ongoing work.

All dogs go through normal life stages and changes — puppyhood, adolescence, adulthood, aging, moving homes, and adapting to new environments. Any of these can lead to stress, uncertainty, or moments of testing boundaries.

Because of this, ongoing training is essential. Training isn’t a one-off task; it’s a continual process that helps you understand your dog’s needs, support them through transitions, and set everyone up for long-term success.

We would expect adopters to maintain the training we’ve started and seek further guidance if needed. We’re always happy to help with information and recommendations for trainers, and provide advice during the trial and adoption process also.

Can't adopt Sheldon? You can still help.

Although we charge a small adoption fee, this doesn't generally cover the costs of us getting our dogs ready for adoption. Desexing, grooms, vet care, vaccinations, registration, training and variety of other things can go into these dogs. If you'd like to help either on a one off or regular basis we would be grateful for your donation.
