Rafferty

MALE | BORN APPROX JULY 2025 | BRITISH BULLDOG

LOCATED IN AUCKLAND

Also known as: Raf, Raffy, Rif-Raf
Personality: Charming, stubborn, hilarious and very aware of his royal status.

Rafferty is a big personality wrapped up in one very handsome package. He’s affectionate, entertaining, surprisingly energetic and has absolutely no problem letting you know when he has his own ideas about how things should be done.

He already knows sit and come, although “come” is sometimes treated more like a suggestion than a command. Rafferty can have a stubborn streak and, if he’s decided he doesn’t want to do something, he’s quite happy to plant himself firmly in place and reconsider your request at his leisure.

When he does want something from you, subtlety isn’t really his thing. One of his favourite ways to request attention is to turn around and proudly present you with his backside. Apparently this is royal protocol.

Despite being an excellent professional napper, Rafferty has a surprisingly energetic side. He can jump impressively high, loves getting out and about and could even make a great adventure companion for someone — provided you both agree beforehand on the distance!

Food is another great love of Rafferty’s life. He once discovered his kibble sitting on top of his crate and quietly helped himself. No chaos. No guilt. Just a very calculated snack attack.

And then there are the farts.

They are spectacular.

Rafferty has mastered the ability to clear a room while remaining completely unbothered by the destruction he has left behind. Consider yourself warned.

While there is plenty to laugh about with this boy, Rafferty will need a strong, confident owner who is comfortable handling a powerful dog. He can pull hard on lead, so continuing his lead manners and training will be important. He’ll thrive with someone who can give him clear, consistent boundaries while still appreciating the cheeky character underneath all that strength.

Rafferty is funny, stubborn, affectionate, food-motivated and just a little bit ridiculous.

Basically, life with His Royal Highness is unlikely to be boring. 👑

A Note on Training and Adopting Our Dogs

Our dogs are wonderful, and we invest a great deal of time and effort into their training and preparation. However, no dog is “perfectly trained” or ready to adopt without any ongoing work.

All dogs go through normal life stages and changes — puppyhood, adolescence, adulthood, aging, moving homes, and adapting to new environments. Any of these can lead to stress, uncertainty, or moments of testing boundaries.

Because of this, ongoing training is essential. Training isn’t a one-off task; it’s a continual process that helps you understand your dog’s needs, support them through transitions, and set everyone up for long-term success.

We would expect adopters to maintain the training we’ve started and seek further guidance if needed. We’re always happy to help with information and recommendations for trainers, and provide advice during the trial and adoption process also.

Can't adopt Rafferty? You can still help.

Although we charge a small adoption fee, this doesn't generally cover the costs of us getting our dogs ready for adoption. Desexing, grooms, vet care, vaccinations, registration, training and variety of other things can go into these dogs. If you'd like to help either on a one off or regular basis we would be grateful for your donation.
