Latte

MALE | BORN APPROX JUNE 2021 | BORDER COLLIE X
LOCATED IN AUCKLAND

Meet Latte, the smoochy, water loving sweet heart.

The Best Bits

  • Latte is basically a walking love sponge. He wants to be everyone’s best friend and greets visitors like a gentleman.

  • Plays beautifully with his canine foster brother — gentle, respectful, and happy to go at his own pace.

  • Beach trips? Pond swims? Face dunking in water? He’s basically Aquaman in dog form.

  • Loyal homebody — no interest in running away, prefers chilling with his humans (doors open, no drama).

  • Crate trained: goes in happily, waits for his release command, and only gives a couple of “hey, don’t forget me” barks before settling.

The Middle Ground

  • Cats: fine if they’re statues. If they move, it’s game on. Needs a confident cat who can clap back.

  • Recall: decent… unless there’s a smell. Then his brain leaves the chat.

The Work-ons

  • On lead: transforms into a tank with zero handler focus. Off lead? Weirdly better.

  • Car rides: imagine a heavy metal concert performed entirely in barks. Ear protection recommended.

  • Chickens: suspiciously interesting.

  • Cows: first meeting was… let’s say “unproductive.” Horses pending.

  • Treats: must be thrown on the ground, otherwise fingers are collateral damage.

The Ideal Home

Latte is a sweet, goofy, happy-go-lucky dude — but he’s not a “starter dog.” He needs:

  • A confident, experienced human with strong arms and stronger patience.

  • A semi-rural setup (urban Latte = barky Latte).

  • Someone who appreciates both his snoozy wardrobe naps

Latte will make you laugh daily, test your reflexes occasionally, and love you unconditionally!

Further Info

Good with dogs: Yes. He loves them.

Good with cats: Fine if they’re statues. If they move, it’s game on. Needs a confident cat who can clap back.

Good with other animals: He has a lot of interest in chickens so couldn't be around feathered friends unsupervised.

Good with kids: Due to his size we would suggest older kids, but in general he loves all humans.

Energy Levels:  Medium.

Home Experience Level:  Latte needs an experienced family that can continue his training and provide him with structure and boundaries.

Health: Currently working on itchies with the vet. Otherwise healthy, just a little chunky.

Weight: 37kg, but working to get this lower!

A Note on Training and Adopting Our Dogs

Our dogs are wonderful, and we invest a great deal of time and effort into their training and preparation. However, no dog is “perfectly trained” or ready to adopt without any ongoing work.

All dogs go through normal life stages and changes — puppyhood, adolescence, adulthood, aging, moving homes, and adapting to new environments. Any of these can lead to stress, uncertainty, or moments of testing boundaries.

Because of this, ongoing training is essential. Training isn’t a one-off task; it’s a continual process that helps you understand your dog’s needs, support them through transitions, and set everyone up for long-term success.

We would expect adopters to maintain the training we’ve started and seek further guidance if needed. We’re always happy to help with information and recommendations for trainers, and provide advice during the trial and adoption process also.

Can't adopt Latte? You can still help.

Although we charge a small adoption fee, this doesn't generally cover the costs of us getting our dogs ready for adoption. Desexing, grooms, vet care, vaccinations, registration, training and variety of other things can go into these dogs. If you'd like to help either on a one off or regular basis we would be grateful for your donation.
