Khai would like everyone to know he's a calm, gentle, sophisticated schnauzer... right up until you clip on his lead.
Inside the house, he's all cuddles and smooches. Outside? He transforms into an Arctic sled dog despite never having seen snow. Walks are less "stroll" and more "hold on for dear life." (It's a work in progress)
He's also recently discovered his voice. Khai takes neighbourhood security very seriously.
He's also convinced he has a future as a medical detection dog. Meet him once and he'll politely shove his nose directly into your face for an extensive breath inspection. We can't guarantee he'll detect illness, but he'll definitely know what you had for lunch.
He's an absolute superstar in his crate and now flies up and down stairs with confidence... although his braking system on the way down could use an update.
Unlike most dogs, Khai believes squeakers deserve freedom, not destruction. Instead of ripping toys apart, he gently works away at them, convinced the squeaker will eventually choose to come out on its own.
Bath time wasn't exactly his favourite activity. He filed one formal complaint, then accepted his fate. Secretly, we think he knows he looks very handsome afterwards.
He's recovering brilliantly from his desexing surgery, although the cone of shame appears to temporarily disable about 80% of his brain power. Doorways have become particularly confusing.
If you're looking for a sweet, affectionate best mate who's equal parts cuddle bug, security guard, sled dog and breath inspector... Khai might just be your perfect match.

A Note on Training and Adopting Our Dogs
Our dogs are wonderful, and we invest a great deal of time and effort into their training and preparation. However, no dog is “perfectly trained” or ready to adopt without any ongoing work.
All dogs go through normal life stages and changes — puppyhood, adolescence, adulthood, aging, moving homes, and adapting to new environments. Any of these can lead to stress, uncertainty, or moments of testing boundaries.
Because of this, ongoing training is essential. Training isn’t a one-off task; it’s a continual process that helps you understand your dog’s needs, support them through transitions, and set everyone up for long-term success.
We would expect adopters to maintain the training we’ve started and seek further guidance if needed. We’re always happy to help with information and recommendations for trainers, and provide advice during the trial and adoption process also.

Although we charge a small adoption fee, this doesn't generally cover the costs of us getting our dogs ready for adoption. Desexing, grooms, vet care, vaccinations, registration, training and variety of other things can go into these dogs. If you'd like to help either on a one off or regular basis we would be grateful for your donation.
