Hobson

MALE | BORN APPROX DECEMBER 2020 | JACK RUSSELL X CHIHUAHUA
LOCATED IN AUCKLAND

Greetings, humans. I am Hobson, and I would like to formally apply for the position of Your Dog.

My Qualifications

  • Walks: I LOVE walks. I walk beautifully on the lead… once you catch me. The lead is a fun noodle and I must celebrate its arrival with zoomies. This is law.

  • Dog Interactions: I say hello politely, then immediately remember I have places to be.

  • Noise Tolerance: Loud noises? Fine. Barking dogs? Fine. Car rides? Fine. I am unshakeable. I am serenity. I am Hobson.

  • Crate: I sleep in my crate like a tiny angel. Zero complaints. Zero drama. Daytime barks only occur when the cats are doing something suspicious, which is always.

  • Cats: At first I thought they were fun. Then I realised they are boring. Winston the cat is now my mentor. He trains me. I respect him.

Areas for Professional Development

  • Lead Attachment Protocol: When I see the lead, I must zoom. I cannot NOT zoom.

  • Alone Time: I like to be with my humans, they need me around for the laughs, but apparently I need to learn to enjoy my own company, boring.

  • Front Door Behaviour: I used to bounce six feet in the air like a caffeinated pogo stick. Now I bounce once, then sit politely like a reformed gentleman. Personal growth is important.

  • Recall: Indoors: “Hobson!” → I come running. Outdoors: “Hobson!” → I cannot hear you. I have transcended. I am not motivated by food, toys, balls, or reason. I am motivated by vibes.

About Me

I am easygoing, sweet, and extremely handsome. I love walks, I love people, I love dogs, and I love being part of the action. I am the perfect mix of chill and chaos.

Im not quite ready to be adopted just yet, I still have lots to teach my foster humans and show them all of my skills. If you are interested in getting to know me once Im ready then please apply.

Respectfully,

Hobson

Your future best friend and part‑time kangaroo

A Note on Training and Adopting Our Dogs

Our dogs are wonderful, and we invest a great deal of time and effort into their training and preparation. However, no dog is “perfectly trained” or ready to adopt without any ongoing work.

All dogs go through normal life stages and changes — puppyhood, adolescence, adulthood, aging, moving homes, and adapting to new environments. Any of these can lead to stress, uncertainty, or moments of testing boundaries.

Because of this, ongoing training is essential. Training isn’t a one-off task; it’s a continual process that helps you understand your dog’s needs, support them through transitions, and set everyone up for long-term success.

We would expect adopters to maintain the training we’ve started and seek further guidance if needed. We’re always happy to help with information and recommendations for trainers, and provide advice during the trial and adoption process also.

Can't adopt Hobson? You can still help.

Although we charge a small adoption fee, this doesn't generally cover the costs of us getting our dogs ready for adoption. Desexing, grooms, vet care, vaccinations, registration, training and variety of other things can go into these dogs. If you'd like to help either on a one off or regular basis we would be grateful for your donation.
